Many of the Christians pastors and church leaders who have been working with Transformed International over past years have nursery school education as part of their church programme. From the outset of our ministry in Africa, nursery education was quickly adopted as an integral part of our work.

Transformed International supports local churches by providing expertise and resources to nursery schools that includes teacher training, teacher salary support, academic curriculum development, provision of some equipment, a daily meal and clean drinking water for children and staff.

The need for school support is great

The impact of AIDS and endemic poverty in sub-Saharan Africa has decimated families and communities. 40 million orphaned children rely upon the charity of those already struggling to cope. For these children there is little hope of anything in life except abject poverty.

Our nursery schools’ programme enables churches to establish model nursery schools for children otherwise unable to access education and other vital support. Our schools are partner projects where communities and families come together to assist with school buildings and other support.
The Impact

The Impact

Many of our nursery school children are orphans or live in desperate poverty. The care provided by our schools includes a daily meal of maize porridge and a clean water programme that has resulted in a radical drop in child sickness. This ‘love in action’ enriches and improves the lives of whole communities in a powerful way.

Frequently asked questions

Before we support a new school we assess the ability to provide financial support in the long term. Through sponsorship, we undertake to provide each school with £1,800 per year to cover the core programme of education, food, clean water and extra-curricular activities. Any additional funds provide equipment and other resources.

Your sponsorship of a nursery school goes a long way and helps with supporting the following:

  • Nursery education for up to 120 children
  • Two salaried teachers
  • An annual teacher training programme
  • A school overseer
  • A school committee made up of teachers, parents and local officials
  • Subsidised school uniform
  • A daily meal of maize porridge for each child
  • The availability of Lifewater safe drinking water for each child

By Western standards it costs remarkably little to impact the lives of a whole community in rural Africa. Just UK£150 per month enables us to set up and sponsor an entire nursery school of up to 120 children and their teachers.

Sponsors receive feedback and reports from their schools and have opportunities to visit and for other involvement should they so wish.

We just ask for a minimum of a two-year sponsorship commitment to provide financial assurance to the school as they consider future planning.
